Ancaster Avalanche Atom AE Team Captures Rock N Roll Cup in Cleveland, OH

The Ancaster Avalanche Atom AE team traveled to Cleveland, Ohio over US Thanksgiving weekend to participate in the Rock N Roll Cup (November 25-27, 2011)

Getting action started on Black Friday, Ancaster defeated a feisty Wheatfield Blades team 5-2, giving up a 2-0 lead and then breaking a 2-2 tie with 3 third period goals, 2 by Mitchell Vaugeois and the winner by Jonathan Kay.

On Saturday Ancaster blew another 2-0 lead only to scratch back again when Jack Penson gave Ancaster a 5-4 lead. Bad bounces and sloppy play handed the lead back to North Olmstead 6-5 and they held on for the victory.

In a must win game, Ancaster played nearly perfect defensive hockey shutting out Rocky River 3-0. Marcus Channer was perfect in net and Coleson Winters chipped in 2 goals for the victory. The victory set-up a much-anticipated rematch with the North Olmstead Eagles.

Ancaster knew they would have their work cut out for them against the local team. A focused bunch of boys arrived to play and play they did. Tournament MVP Marcus Leone opened the scoring followed by Joseph Mattei who added some insurance. North Olmstead added a second period tally but were unable to penetrate the Ancaster defence the rest of the way and Eric Ferguson stopped everything fired his way. At the buzzer Ancaster were 2-1 winners and Rock N Roll Cup Champions for 2011/12!

Ancaster Avalanche Peewee AA claim GOLD in the Tournament of Champions!!!!

The Ancaster Avalanche Peewee AA hockey team was trailing 2 – 0 to the visiting Amherst Knights with 2 minutes left in the first game of the Stoney Creek AA Tournament of Champions. The Avalanche have faced some adversity this year and the season to date could best be summed up by a long list of injuries that have kept 4, 5 or 6 kids out of the lineup at any one time. After the first 58 minutes, it seemed that this tournament was going to play out just like the rest of their season with another difficult loss. But then at 1:56 of the third period, the Avs scored ... and then again ... and again. Three goals in 1 minute and 25 seconds to win the game - UNBELIEVABLE!

The momentum from coming back and winning the first game seemed to carry over and the Avs easily defeated the Scarborough Young Bruins 7–2. The Avs were dominant and the second win advanced them to the semi-final game against the Flamborough Sabres on Sunday morning. The semi-final was a very physical game but the Avs prevailed 8–4 earning them a birth in the final. The Championship game was a back and forth struggle against the Chatham-Kent Cobras but the Avs would not be denied. Ancaster WINS! Ancaster WINS! Ancaster WINS! 4-3

Congratulations Avalanche! The coaches are extremely proud of your efforts. Wear those Championship rings with pride.

The Minor Bantam AE’s captured the gold medal in the Three River’s Cup Tournament in Pittsburgh by defeating Livonia (Michigan) 2-1 in overtime in the championship game on Sunday, September 25, 2011.

The Avalanche finished with a record of 1 win, 2 ties and 1 loss in their four round robin games. Their only loss was against Livonia by a score of 4-1. The Avalanche rebounded from that loss with an outstanding team effort in the finals. In a closely fought game, the Avalanche tied the score at 1-1 in the third period to send the game into overtime. Neither team could score in OT sending the game to a shootout. Nikolas VanBerkel was outstanding between the pipes stopping all five Livonia shooters to secure the win.
